Chinese film director, Wang Quan’an was arrested by the Beijing police on charges of paid sex. The 48-year-old reportedly paid for prostitution service for three days, while his actress wife, Zhang Yuqi was in the States attending a fashion show.
Wang reportedly confessed to soliciting a 31-year-old woman, Lu through text messages, and paid RMB 800 for her sex service.
According to report, Wang engaged the prostitution service for a consecutive of 3 days on 8-10 September, and had a threesome sex with two other women in one of the days. He was nabbed at his working studio on 10 September.
Prostitution is illegal in China, and Wang could be detained for 10-15 days.
Wang was awarded the prestigious Golden Bear award at the 2007 Berlin International Film Festival for his film, Tuya’s marriage <圖雅的婚事>. Wang married his lead actress, Zhang Yuqi who starred in his 2010 film, White Deer Plain <白鹿原>.
After receiving news of her husband’s arrest, Zhang Yuqi wrote on her Weibo, “Thank you everyone for your concern towards me and my family. My feelings are complicated now. This incident has caused harm to the public order, and I believe the enforcers will have a fair treatment to this matter. As this has affected our family, we will face this together and bear the consequences together.”
