Barbie Hsu’s husband accused of laying off staff who refused to take unpaid leave

Many organisations around the world are feeling the heat from the outbreak of the Coronavirus. In China, many businesses are still closed due to the seriousness of the infection.

Barbie Hsu’s husband, Wang Xiaofei was accused by a staff from one his hotels, that he laid off staff who refused to take unpaid leave.

An employee from Wang’s hotel said that in the agreement, employees would reduce 7 working days per month, from February 1st to March 31st. Those who refused to cooperate would be laid off.

According to the employee, the company went back on its word. Some were being laid off although they agreed to reduce 7 working days per month.

In response to the accusation, Wang has since clarified that he had given an afternoon for the employees to consider. However, 4 employees had responded only the next day, and these 4 were being laid off. He also denied that he had forced his employees to take unpaid leave.

He explained in his Weibo, “The unpaid leave means that the staff would take leave for 7 days in a month. The staff will still receive their basic pay. Staff who agreed can continue to stay, those who replied late or do not agree will be asked to go. They will still be given 1 month of salary.”

In response to the news, Barbie has replied, “The whole economy has taken a hit due to the situation. We will go through the difficult times together.”
