On his 60th birthday yesterday, Hong Kong superstar Jackie Chan held a charity auction at JW Marriott Hotel in Beijing, and raised HK$88 million of funds for the Chinese film industry.
A series of celebratory events were organised to mark Jackie’s 60th birthday. Two days ago, a charity concert named Peace & Love & Friendship concert was held at the Beijing Workers’ Stadium. Big names like Jay Chou, Leehom Wang, Coco Lee, Leo Ku, Kpop group EXO, Kim Hee Sun and Japan’s MISIA turned up at the show.
Yesterday, Jackie held a gathering session with his 800 fans who flew from around the world to Beijing just to send in their blessings for him. In the evening, his charity auction was also a star-studded event, with many celebrities such as Eric Tsang, Vincent Zhao, Stanley Tong, Li Bingbing, Huang Bo, Hu Jun, Ge You, Feng Xiaogang, Han Geng and Korean stars Lee Byung-hun, Choi Si-won, H.O.T, Jung Woo-sung, Lee Joon-gi, etc. turned up to celebrate his birthday.
For this charity event, Jackie auctioned off his beloved Lamborghini sports car. He said, “Lamborghini is my dream car. I borrowed it for a drive from the film production company when I was filming in America. It cost USD 100,000 that time but I did not buy it, and bought a house instead. When my friend gave one to me a few years ago, I did not bear to drive it and just displayed it at one side. It is more meaningful to auction it for a charitable cause. My name was engraved on the car. Whoever drives it will know that it is for charity.”
Other items up for auction include a Richard Mille RM57-01 Jackie Chan’s special edition watch, a tuxedo set custom made for Jackie by MCM, Gone with the Bullets <一步之遙> movie suitcase and a painting. Li Bingbing also bid HK$19 million for a Chinese painting.
The Chinese actress said that she was helping a friend to bid as her friend wanted to keep it low profile. She said, “Jackie Chan also knows the person. The person is here tonight.”
