Many celebrities have spoken out and protested to the dog meat festival in China. Taiwanese pop star, Jay Chou has also criticized harshly on the dog-eating event after reading a report about dog cruelty at the festival.

Guangxi Yulin’s dog meat festival was held on 21 June 2014, and stirred up a public outcry especially from animal protection activists. Some dog vendors also took the opportunity to demand money from animal lovers by torturing dogs in front of them.

A dog seller was photographed holding a dog high up with a metal pole and threatened to clip the dog to death, so as to incite the dog lovers to pay. Some dog lovers cried in tears and forked out an exorbitant amount to redeem the dogs.

Two days ago, Jay blasted the cruelty act of these dog vendors on his micro-blog. He wrote, “What kind of ridiculous festival is that? Threatened to clip the dog to death when someone refused to buy the dog, and there was even people laughing about it. Please stop such behaviour!”

He added, “Why don’t I try clipping you instead?”
