JJ Lin and Penny Tai bag top honours at Golden Melody Awards

Singaporean singer-songwriter, JJ Lin bagged the Best Mandarin Male Singer at the 25th Golden Melody Awards, whereas Malaysian singer-songwriter, Penny Tai took home the Best Mandarin Female Singer.

Held at The Taipei Arena on Saturday (28 June 2014), the Golden Melody Awards was a star-glittering event, attended by singers, composers, producers and musicians from the Mandopop scene.

This is JJ’s first Best Mandarin Male Singer trophy, although he was nominated five times before. While receiving his award, a jubilant JJ exclaimed on stage, “Yes! So this is how it feels like to win the Best Male Singer!”

JJ also dedicated the award to his late grandmother. “She left us last year, but she taught me that family is worth protecting. I would also like to thank my parents for gifting me my musical talent, and teach me how to be a good person.”

An emotional Penny thanked her “future husband” on stage, and revealed that there are wedding plans soon.

“There is indeed wedding plan this year, but it’s still very preliminary. This has been dragging for many years. I want to do this thing when I take a break this year.”

Taiwanese rock musician, Chang Chen-yue clinched the Best Album of the Year award, for his record Ayal Komod <我是海雅谷慕>. The Best Song of the Year and Best Lyricist awards were taken by Taiwanese producer-singer, Jonathan Lee, who is also nicknamed as the “Music godfather”.
