After posting a picture of Nikon camera on Weibo yesterday, Leehom Wang (王力宏) was heavily blasted by Chinese netizens.
Admist the tensions between China and Japan’s disputes over the Diaoyu Islands, Leehom’s insensitive flaunting of the Japanese camera was slammed by netizens. At his micro-blog, Leehom uploaded the latest model of the Nikon camera and wrote, “The new arrival is here. I am going to improve on my photography skills! Haha…. I am so happy.”
Some angry netizens were upset over Leehom’s support of Japanese product and wrote, “Japan will forever be China’s pain. The heavenly king will also have to die since he stepped on the landmine.”
While other netizens wrote, “Are you looking for scolding since you choose to display a Japanese product at this point of time?”
“You are showing off Japanese product, don’t you know about the China-Japan disputes? You are so disappointing,” wrote another netizen.
However, Leehom’s fans were protective of their idol and the fans got into a heated row with the netizens at the micro-blog. As a result, there are over 20,000 of forum discussions at the Weibo!
Leehom is currently the endorser for Nikon in the China region and his endorsing fee is estimated around NT $30 million . After the backlash, his posting has already been deleted from his Weibo.
