After declining to present the Best Actress trophy to Zhang Ziyi, speculations again arise if Maggie Cheung are not on friendly terms with the Chinese actress.
Rumour had it that Ziyi had requested for more screentime in the 2001’s Wuxia film, Hero <英雄> which caused dissatisfaction from her co-star Maggie. While filming Wong Kar Wai’s 2046, Maggie reportedly quit from the movie after delaying the filming. This led to the promotion of Ziyi as the leading actress and Maggie ended up with only one scene in the film. The duo was said to be on unfriendly terms since then.
At the 50th Golden Horse Awards in Taipei two days ago, Andy Lau and Maggie were co-presenting the Best Actress Award. However, when the winner announced was Ziyi, Maggie refused to pick up the trophy from Andy to present it to Ziyi.
Yesterday, Andy clarified Maggie’s action and said, “Actually, I was supposed to present the award. It was a spontaneous moment so I passed the trophy to Maggie.”
As a result, Maggie did not know how to react when she received the trophy from Andy.
During the awards ceremony, Andy and Maggie were also spotted to whisper into each other’s ears many times. Asked what they had chatted, Andy smiled and said, “Nothing much. We were just running through the [awards presentation] flow.”
Andy also shared that Maggie is currently into music and being a DJ, so the duo talked about music and films that night. He also wished to remake the classic film, As Tears Go By <旺角卡門> with Maggie again.
