The annual TVB Anniversary Awards is still three months away and the intense battle of TV King and TV Queen title is already heating up.
Like last year, the voting system will be implemented again for the Best Actor and Best Actress awards. Although the nominations are not out, speculations have already arisen for the coveted awards.
Raymond Lam is out
After losing the Best Actor award in 2012, Raymond Lam reportedly will not renew his contract with TVB and will sign on a per series contract instead.
Besides, Raymond does not have any new series launching this year after devoting most of his time filming mainland productions. It is quite certain that Raymond will not have any nominations at the upcoming TVB Anniversary Awards.
Kenneth Ma – dark horse?
With blockbuster series The Hippocratic Crush <On Call 36小时> launching its sequel soon, there is an early buzz that Kenneth Ma might stand a good chance winning the Best Actor award.
Despite his popular doctor role, Kenneth is not confident about his win. “This is a sequel afterall. The performance might be boxed up due to the restrictions in the first series. It probably won’t generate too much buzz but I still hope that there will be good ratings.”
Kenneth added, “I won’t think too much about the award. If there is, I will be happy. If there isn’t, I will need work harder in future. There are strong opponents this year such as Ruco Chan, Edwin Siu, Wayne Lai, Moses Chan, Francis Ng, Chilam Cheung and Dayo Wong. Facing such strong opponents, it is not even my turn yet. I have to thank everyone for saying that I am dark horse. I am already happy.”
Veteran actors to dominate?
With the series, Triumph in the Skies 2 <冲上云霄Ⅱ> attaining high ratings, Francis Ng and Chilam Cheung have garnered strong support for the Best Actor Award.
Still to come is My Prime Lady <My盛Lady> which stars 53-year-old comedian, Dayo Wong. Dayo has the reputation of creating high ratings for his series and is seen as a strong contender too.
Ex-couple Kevin Cheng and Charmaine Sheh to walk down the red carpet?
Sources have said that TVB will be arranging for ex-couple, Kevin and Charmaine to walk down the red carpet to pull the ratings. Although Kevin has spent most of the time filming mainland productions, his return will definitely help to raise the ratings.
2013 TVB Anniversary Awards will be held on 19 November 2013.
