Cantopop singer, Denise Ho (何韻詩) took part in a gay pride parade in Hong Kong and declared her homosexual status publicly today.

The theme of the parade was “Dare to Love” and approximately 4,000 participants marched in to call for the legalisation of same-sex marriage and ban discrimination against homosexuals. Celebrities such as Denise Ho, Anthony Wong (黃耀明); Hong Kong Legislative Council members such as Raymond Chan (陳志全), Cyd Ho (何秀蘭) and Gary Fan (范國威) all joined in the massive scale parade.

Accompanied by her parents, Denise took on the stage and shouted, “I am so proud to announce that I am a homosexual!”

After declaring her sexual orientation, the emotional Denise broke in tears. The crowd immediately cheered and applauded Denise’s courageous declaration.

Denise is the second Hong Kong celebrity to reveal her homosexuality after Anthony Wong. Denise said that she had feared of being stereotyped and hence did not reveal her sexual orientation before. Under the support of family, friends and colleagues, she decided to cast away her concerns and fought for equal rights for homosexuals.

Denise had also sought the advice of her boss Peter Lam (林建岳), parents and Joey Yung (容祖兒)  before making her decision to join the gay parade. Joey’s reply to Denise was, “If you think it’s right, go ahead to do it.”

Denise and Joey were rumoured to be in a lesbian relationship before. Joey is currently dating Wilfred Lau (劉浩龍).
