After leaving TVB 2 years ago, Matthew Ko has developed his career in China, and has seen an increase in his popularity.

Matthew was the first winner of Mr. Hong Kong pageant in 2005 and signed a eight-year contract with TVB. Unfortunately, his career in TVB did not take off, and he was often assigned minor roles. Dishearten with his career development in Hong Kong, he decided to seek a new avenue in his career.

After signing an agency in China, Matthew’s career gradually picks up. Besides taking up film projects, he has also been invited to many variety programmes. He is invited as a guest star in the second season of reality game show, Run For Time <全員加速中>, and partners with Joey Yung, Jelly Lin, Tian Liang and Ming Dao in the show.

Matthew revealed that after joining the Mr. Hong Kong pageant, he collaborated with Hunan Satellite TV on the dance programme, Dancing with the Stars <舞動奇跡>, and has become good friends with the production team. Hence, the production team invited Matthew to join the second season of Run For Time. Besides having fun in the show, Matthew is also offered a lucrative remuneration.

MatthewKo1As the show is aired in the prime slot, he is given exposure and many China viewers have started to recognise him. This also helps to boost his popularity in China, and increases more job opportunities for him.

Matthew will also work with his ex-colleagues from TVB, Myolie Wu and Michael Tse in a stage play, I Have a Date with Spring <我和春天有個約會>.

He said, “I have left TVB for about 2 years. It felt familiar now that I saw the Hong Kong artistes on the programme, especially the TVB artistes. This is my first time trying out a stage play. It’s something new and I am looking forward to it.”
