Taiwanese actress, Michelle Chen recalled her two career setbacks of her life, which were so unforgettable even till today.
Michelle said that when she first filmed Taiwanese idol drama, Wish to see you again <這裡發現愛>, the director was Lin He-Lung who was infamous for his hot temper.
As this was her first lead actress role, she was inexperienced and nervous during the filming, and was scolded by the director almost everyday. There was once the director even smashed things on the floor and shoved her, saying, “Do you know how to act? Are you a pig!”
Michelle said after work, she would cry on the journey back home. Even at home, she would cry. Her father encouraged her then,”You have to learn to be strong!”
Her second setback was in 2013, when she played the female lead, Little Dragon Girl in Yu Zheng’s drama, Return of the Condor Heroes <神鵰俠侶>.
Many netizens have slammed Michelle for looking “too fat” as the Little Dragon Girl. Many even labelled her as “Xiaolongbao” (Little dumpling). Recalling the dark days, Michelle even doubted herself.
“It was like I was banished from heaven to hell. I began to doubt if I had a flair for acting.”
Michelle eventually decided not to read the remarks from the web, and instead focused on playing the role well.
