Is Raymond Lam planning for a departure from TVB?

Recent reports claimed that Raymond had defied his boss’s instructions and insisted on filming a drama for TVB rival, Now TV.

Since last year, Raymond has been filming lesser dramas for TVB and places his emphasis on mainland dramas. He reportedly will also be filming a Now TV drama, Da Han Xian Hou Wei Zi Fu <大汉贤后卫子夫> which is produced by former TVB producers, Lau Ka Ho and Mui Siu Ching. The drama will be the first to roll out after Now TV receives its broadcasting licence.

Da Han Xian Hou Wei Fu Zi is invested by Huace Film and TV, a China production house. TVB states that its artistes are allowed to participate in any mainland productions as long as they do not dubbed in their own voices. Since Raymond will be signing a drama contract with Huace Film and TV, the drama is classified as a mainland production even though it will be aired on Now TV.

Mui Sui Ching reportedly has approached TVB Executive, Virginia Lok to discuss the possibility of casting Raymond in their drama and the latter quoted a sky high fee of RMB$20 million. Lau Ka Ho subsequently approached Raymond directly. As producer Lau had groomed Raymond during his days in TVB, the latter accepted the drama at a low fee of RMB$10 million despite Virginia Lok’s disapproval.

Sources also said that Raymond is planning to leave TVB after his contract ends next year. He reportedly was disappointed after failing to clinch the Best Actor award at last year’s TVB Anniversary Awards.
