The highly anticipated TVB Anniversary Awards will be scheduled on 17 December 2012. All eyes will be set on the list of top 5 nominees for TV King and Queen who will be publicly voted by viewers. It is believed that the final nominees’ list will be announced this week on 21 November 2012.
According to Ming Pao, the TVB executives have decided on the top 10 nominations for the award categories after rounds of discussions.
Raymond Wong and Joe Ma in top 10
Based on previous years awards, TVB seemed to favour its managed artists and would cast their own artists in the nominations.
However for this year, Joe Ma (馬德鐘), who had terminated his contract with TVB is currently nominated as the Best Actor category for his performance in Tiger Cubs . Another non-management artist, Raymond Wong (黃浩然) is also nominated for his acting in Gloves Come Off .
Joe was pleasantly surprised when he learnt that he was nominated in the top 10 for Best Leading Actor category. “I have never thought of nomination. I am already happy be it win or lose,” said Joe.
Moses Chan nominated for The Last Steep Ascent
For its bold theme on cannibalism and refreshing filming style, When Heaven Burns has received rave reviews. However, Moses Chan (陳豪) was instead nominated for his other series, The Last Steep Ascent .
Asked about his thought on the nomination, Moses said, “It doesn’t matter which series is nominated. The purpose of the award is to participate and enjoy in the process. I can’t even decide which series I preferred, I have feelings for both of them”.
Charmaine Sheh (佘詩曼), who has left TVB is surprisingly being nominated for Best Leading Actress category.
However, Maggie Cheung (張可頤) who crossed over to new TV station, CTI is dropped off from the Top 10. Instead, Aimee Chan (陳茵媺) who was speculated as the hot favourite for Best Supporting Actress is nominated in the Top 10 for Best Leading Actress category. As Aimee only played a supporting role in the The Last Steep Ascent, her nomination comes as a surprise.
Oscar Leung versus Edwin Siu
In the Most Improved Actor awards, Oscar Leung (梁烈唯) and Edwin Siu (蕭正楠) are believed to be the strongest contenders.
Oscar raised to popularity after starring in hit series, Tiger Cubs and L’Escargot . Edwin has also high exposure this year and is arranged to cast in many popular series, “Forensic Heroes 3” , and “The Confidant” .
Mandy Wong versus goddesses
Mandy Wong (黃智雯) who has the highest chance to win the Most Improved Actress award will now have to edge it out with Eliza Sam (岑麗香) and Christine Kuo (苟芸慧). The young rising stars, Eliza and Christine is nicknamed as TVB goddesses and have a strong pool of male fans.
Only three awards are publicly voted
Best Series award, Best Leading Actor and Best Leading Actress awards will be entirely voted by the viewers. The remaining awards will be decided internally within the 9 TVB executives and 3,000 TVB employees, in which each group accounts for 50% of the votes.
